Welcome to Ottawa Hills

A
neighborhood of tree lined streets,
exceptional homes and
nice people.
Ottawa Hills, once rolling farm land, became home
to
Highland Golf Club in 1907. Its membership was described by the Grand
Rapids Herald as “an active, energetic, up-and-doing membership of 100, to
a man, almost, ardent devotees of
the
grand game of the verdant links.”
Which today means - These folks really liked golf!
The club house stood here in the 1500 block of Pontiac with its wide
veranda overlooking the course. By 1922, however, the
demand for building sites within the city limits took precedence over the
“verdant links”. The land was laid out in 10 irregular blocks. Some said
they followed the pattern of an English village. Skeptics pointed out
that they seemed to follow the old fairways. Never the less, the first
lots sold within a month and Ottawa Hills was born, the first Grand
Rapids neighborhood made possible by the automobile. By the late twenties
200 brick homes with an eclectic blend of architectural styles had been
built.
As
the residents did some 80 years ago, we think you’ll enjoy living here.
